Limkokwing Makes Botswana Fashion History in London

There is nothing like the buzz of fashion week, the few days where fashionistas, stylists, buyers, designers and models are rushing around in the highest of heels, big bouncy hair, and the clinking of jewellery.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, in Collaboration with the Botswana High Commission UK is hosting a fashion show organised by the British Fashion Council, as part of London Fashion Week A/W 2012, in the International Fashion Showcase Emerging Talent Award 2012.

Known as trendsetters with a habit of pushing the limits against the conventional in fashion, Limkokwing is the first Malaysian, and first Botswana University to showcase at London Fashion Week. The showcase will also be held at the Limkokwing London university campus, the first Malaysian, first Asian and first Commonwealth university campus in the UK.

Representing Botswana, the ‘Gem of Africa’ are: Thato Tlhagwane, Botho Chalebgwa, Beryl Phala, Black Trash and Sela Motshwane.

This will be the first time a full presentation by Batswana designers is showcased on the world stage, and Limkokwing is proud to be creative partner in such a significant event.

Bringing together the best of 3 continents, in a way only Limkokwing can, Limkokwing University will also be showcasing a collection from Kuala Lumpur featuring work by students from Malaysia, Iran, Korea, Indonesia, India and others especially chosen to reflect the East’s ethnic heritage, right in the heart of London.

Called ‘Creativity in Motion: Botswana at London Fashion Week’, the show will be a spectacle never seen before. According to the Associate Vice President Talent Development of Limkokwing University, Dato’ Tiffanee Lim, “it’s exciting to be part of something that is ground-breaking. I’m proud of our students and of both Botswana and Malaysia for coming so far. to be the first university at London fashion week to participate in this way is something we’ll treasure. But it also reminds us how far there is to go and now this is done we can’t help but want more! Hopefully this will be an indication of what more is to come for the university globally, and i hope this will inspire others to push themselves to get to where they need to go.”

PUBLIKA SQUARE, 22 December 2011- As the year comes to a close, the spirit of celebration can be felt everywhere, but nowhere as strongly as among the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s international cohort of creative students as they welcome Christmas and congratulate their graduating class of Fashion and Retail Design students with another edition of their infamous Creativity in Motion series.

This term’s class of 18 designers from 6 will show off their collections drawing from inspiration such as Arabic Abayas, Indian textiles, Japanese Samurais and others and adding their contemporary twists.

Awards were presented to students with the best techniques and the most creative collections, by Limkokwing’s Associate Vice President of Talent Development Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim who said that the awards went to those who went the extra mile to create their own textiles, shoes, and had the strongest concepts for their collections.

There was no shortage of talent on show, with performers from the University’s Sound and Music Design Academy who got the crowd to sing along and dance with their original and cover grooves, and ended with the class All I want for Christmas. Ernie Shaheerah belted her single My Only One to cheers from her fans.

Based on their unique creativity and worldly knowledge, previous graduates have gone on to become the next big hits in local and regional industries such as Daniel Chong, Andy Yap and Rico Rinaldi.

Other notable graduates include Jovian Mandagie, Zaireen Ibrahim, of the Melium Group, Sueann Chong, fashion director of Catcha Corp. Publishing, and Anu Rai, fashion director of Marie Claire UK.

Hosted by Malaz Elnaiem from the UK and 2006 Zimbabwean Idol Jonah Sithole, the anchors for The Magic of Limkokwing- the World in One Place radio show every Sunday at 10pm.

“It really is the world in one place at Limkokwing!” the hosts said. “Where else do you get so many different nationalities in the same place? In one hour I think you must have seen about 40 different countries on stage.”

Limkokwing University is renowned worldwide for giving their student the best opportunities to bring to life their innovative projects. Malaysia’s most globalized university is always looking for fresh talents to cultivate.

Straits Quay

Straits Quay – The first marina retail mall developed by Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) which is located in Seri Tanjung Pinang. The retail mall house over 100 tenants which include some of my favorites such as Dome, Berlin’s Bier Houz, Healy’s MAC, Starbucks and Malaysia’s finest pewter house Royal Selangor.

The retail mall was built in a Victorian Architecture style; classic, exquisite and sweet.

Scenery of the waterfront filled with yachts and the lighthouse is simply amazing. Something that I’ll never see in Kuala Lumpur.

A thought to myself: I may just want to retire in Penang though I can’t speak Hokkien?
